   Gimpo Jangneung Royal Tomb (Queen Inheon) [UNESCO World Heritage]

   Designated as a Historic Site, Jangneung is the royal tomb of Wonjong, the biological father of King Injo (the 16th king of Joseon, r. 1623–1649), and his consort Queen Inheon of the Gu clan. The scale and layout of the tomb exemplify the typical style of the mid-Joseon period. Below the tomb stands the jaesil (ritual preparation hall), a building where King Yeongjo (21st king) and King Jeongjo (22nd king) visited every year to conduct memorial rites.MoreLess

   Joyang Bangjik

   Established in 1933 with domestic capital, Joyang Bangjik was Ganghwa's first artificial silk factory, but it fell into ruin as the local textile industry declined over time. The once-dilapidated building has been reborn as a massive cafe. Crumbling walls have become charming art galleries and movie screening spaces, long workbenches have transformed into coffee tables, and the space left empty by machines and workers is now filled with antiques gathered from China, Europe, and elsewhere. British doors with cracked glass panes, round mirrors from old Czech trains, and fish-shaped pastry molds that worked hard flipping over winters are placed naturally as if they had always belonged there.
