   Yongan Ecological Wetland Park

   The Geumgang River Yongan District Ecological River is a large-scale 670,000㎡ ecological wetland park created along the Geumgang River in Nanpo-ri, Yongan-myeon, as part of the Four Major Rivers Project. The river park features neatly maintained wooden decks, making it ideal for walking and cycling. It includes Tree Frog Square, Beetle Square, Dragonfly Square, Butterfly Square, a bird observatory, an outdoor learning area, a botanical observation garden, observation decks, and a reed experience area. The ecological wetland along the Geumgang River features lotus flowers in summer, cosmos and silver grass in autumn, and becomes a resting area for migratory birds in winter. Next to Yongan Ecological Park is the country's largest pilot silver grass field covering about 1.8 square kilometers (550,000 pyeong), hosting the Geumgang Silver Grass Festival every autumn.    Iksan National Museum

   Iksan National Museum is located to the southwest of the Mireuksaji Temple Site (Historic Site No. 150), which was the largest Buddhist temple during the Three Kingdoms Period. Archaeological excavations at the Mireuksaji Temple Site were conducted from 1980 to 1996. To preserve and exhibit about 19,000 cultural artifacts spanning from the Three Kingdoms Period to the Joseon Dynasty recovered during the excavations, it opened as the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Exhibition Hall in 1997. In January 2009, approximately 1,100 pieces of sarira reliquaries were unearthed during the dismantling and restoration of the Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site (National Treasure No. 11). In July 2015, the Mireuksaji Temple Site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the historical value of the Mireuksaji Temple Site and the Iksan area received renewed recognition, it was transitioned to the Mireuksaji Relics Museum in December 2015 and renamed Iksan National Museum in February 2019. The History and Culture Hall and the Architectural Culture Hall exhibit various collections illustrating the founding and transformation of Mireuksa Temple. In the History and Culture Hall, visitors can view Buddhist craftworks including sarira reliquaries as well as daily life at temples across different eras. The Architectural Culture Hall displays architectural components, such as roof tiles, from the Sabi period of Baekje to the Joseon Dynasty.MoreLess
