   Ulsan Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeongseong Fortress

   Built in 1417 (the 17th year of King Taejong's reign), Ulsan Byeongyeongseong Fortress was a typical Joseon Dynasty town fortress (eupseong) constructed along low rolling hills under 45 meters above sea level, serving as the headquarters for the Left Army Commander of Gyeongsang-do. It was damaged during the Japanese invasions of Korea (the Imjin War and Jeongyujaeran) when Japanese troops stationed nearby took its stones to build Ulsanwaeseong Fortress. In modern times, urban development left only traces of the fortress site, but following a full-scale restoration project that began in 2010, much of its original appearance has been restored.MoreLess
