Recommended Winter Destination: Charming and Relaxing 2-Day, 1-Night Andong Travel Course

Have you taken a New Year's trip yet? For my first trip of the New Year, I revisited Andong, which I had traveled to the winter before. Some say that returning to the same destination diminishes the excitement, but there are places that only grow on you as memories build with every walk. Andong is just such a place. Spending the New Year in Andong, a destination as charming as it is slow-paced, was comfortable and relaxing.

   A Photo Spot Everywhere, Woryeonggyo Bridge

   I arrived past 6:30 PM. As dusk settled over Andong, a destination came to mind. Departing from my original itinerary, the first stop on my trip became Woryeonggyo Bridge. Measuring 387 meters long and 3.6 meters wide, Woryeonggyo Bridge is the longest wooden pedestrian bridge in Korea, with Woryeongjeong Pavilion standing in its center. It is said that the bridge was modeled after a pair of mituri (traditional hemp/straw shoes) woven from a devoted wife's hair for her departed husband. Among the many bridges I have visited, Woryeonggyo seems to be one of the best-maintained. People often visit bridges to enjoy night views, but many places gradually fall into disrepair over time, leaving patchy, incomplete light displays.    Truly Enjoying Andong Jjimdak

   After walking along Woryeonggyo Bridge, I began to feel hungry. So, I headed to Andong Gu Market, packed with things to see and eat. Andong Gu Market is widely renowned for its Andong Jjimdak (braised spicy chicken) Alley. As the alley is narrow, parking in a public parking lot is recommended over parking on the roadside. Even after enjoying your meal at a leisurely pace, the parking fee comes out to only around 1,000 KRW. When I visited, the Andong Jjimdak Alley was relatively quiet. However, delivery motorcycles were bustling about in every direction, proving the enduring popularity of Andong Gu Market.    A Place to Walk Again, Andong Hahoe Village

   On the clear second day, I visited Andong Hahoe Village, a treasured UNESCO World Heritage site in Korea. The road leading to Andong Hahoe Village feels like a peaceful countryside path, bringing comfort to the mind. This tranquility is the true charm of Andong. Opening the bus window and taking in the fresh rural scent, I felt I could understand why people choose to return to farming life. To fuel up before exploring the village, I headed straight to Hahoe Marketplace upon arrival. Hahoe Marketplace is a cluster of restaurants and souvenir shops operated directly by the residents of Hahoe Village.
