Exploring the Past and Present of Sacheon

This fortress is said to have been built by Shin In-son, the Vice Minister of War, by royal order in 1442 (the 24th year of King Sejong's reign). Early records state that the fortress perimeter was 3,105 cheok, the wall height was 10.5–11.5 cheok, and there were three gates and three barbicans (ongseong) each. Later records note a perimeter of 5,015 cheok, a wall height of 15 cheok, and three gates and barbicans each, indicating that it was expanded at a later date.
