   Pohang Canal was not created artificially where no waterway existed; rather, it was naturally formed as an old waterway was restored to regain its past appearance. In the late 1960s, a transitional period for the nation, the small waterway connecting Dongbin Inner Harbor and the Hyeongsangang River was reclaimed to build commercial and residential areas as Pohang urbanized and Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO) was constructed.
