Climbing to the Hidden Scenery of Seoraksan

Cross Hangyeryeong Pass and begin a hike toward Heullimgol and Jujeongol valleys in search of Southern Seoraksan's finest hidden scenery. The 6.6 km full course runs from Heullimgol through Deungseondae Cliff and Yongso Falls to Jujeongol Valley. Looking out from the ridge, Seoraksan's bizarre rock formations unfold like waves, and as you enter the valley, refreshing streams flow down.    Seoraksan Heullimgol Valley

   Heullimgol got its name ('heullim' meaning overcast) because the mountains are high and the valleys are deep, making it seem constantly misty and cloudy. It was opened to the public in 2004 after being designated a nature sabbatical area for 20 years.    Osaek Jujeongol Valley

   Located 3 km from Osaek Mineral Spring in Southern Seoraksan, there is a three-way junction dividing into Yongso Falls and Sibipokpo (12) Falls; the valley from here to Sibipokpo Falls is Jujeongol. It is said to have been named Jujeongol because counterfeit coins ('jujeon') were minted in this remote, deep valley in the old days.
