   Uirimji Reservoir

   Chungcheong-do is also called the Hoseo region because it lies west of a lake, and that lake refers to Uirimji Reservoir. This reflects just how ancient and renowned Uirimji is. Designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Monument No. 11, Uirimji is a reservoir constructed during the Samhan period and was originally called Imji. With a lakeside circumference of 1.8 km, a full water surface area of 151,470㎡, a water storage capacity of 6,611,891㎡, and a depth of 8 to 13 m, this major water source irrigates 289.4 jeongbo of farmland. Jerim is a forest of pine and willow trees planted along the embankment of Uirimji.    Geumwolbong Peak

   Geumwolbong Peak is a mountain that had been used as a clay extraction site for cement production by the Yeongwol Plant of Asia Cement Co. in 1993. During the excavation, a cluster of uniquely shaped bizarre rocks was discovered, and because it closely resembles the 12,000 peaks of Mt. Geumgangsan, it is often called a miniature Geumgangsan.    Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex

   A total of 43 cultural heritage assets, including a local Confucian school (hyanggyo), government offices, traditional houses, and stone sculptures, were relocated to the Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex. Inside the four traditional houses, around 1,600 historical daily artifacts are on display. It houses two treasures: Cheongpung Hanbyeongnu Pavilion (Treasure No. 528), built during the Goryeo Dynasty as a banquet hall for government offices, and the Standing Stone Buddha of Cheongpung (Treasure No. 546). In addition, architectural structures such as Palyeongnu Pavilion (Chungbuk Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 35), the main gate leading into Cheongpung-bu; Geumnamnu Pavilion (Chungbuk Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 20), the main office gate of Cheongpung-bu during the Joseon Dynasty; Eungcheonggak Pavilion (Chungbuk Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 90); and Cheongpung Hyanggyo (Chungbuk Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 64) are preserved here, alongside monuments commemorating the virtues and good governance of magistrates and county governors from the historic Dohobu era, memorial gates for virtuous women, and merit monuments.MoreLess

   Submerged Area History Museum

   This exhibition facility is located in Cheongpung-myeon, Jecheon. It preserves historical materials regarding the background of the Chungju Dam construction and the resulting submerged areas, while exhibiting various records depicting the lifestyles of local residents at the time. Due to the construction of Chungju Dam, 38,663 residents across 7,105 households in 101 ri and dong throughout 11 myeon in Chungju, Jecheon, and Danyang lost their homes. Jecheon accounted for approximately 50% of the total submerged area. Visitors can view various nostalgic photographs, such as the heartbreaking scene of residents in Hansu-myeon holding a farewell village feast by the riverside before leaving their hometown, Geunchun Pharmacy, which was the only medical support facility in Eup-ri, Cheongpung-myeon, and old manual water pumps. The photos capturing life in old Cheongpung-myeon vividly convey the sorrows and joys of the people who had no choice but to leave their beloved homeland behind.MoreLess
