   Namgomun Gate (South Gate of Naju Eupseong Walled Town)

   남고문(나주읍성 남문)

   The south gate of Naju Eupseong Walled Town, restored in Namnae-dong, Naju-si. Around 1920 during the Japanese colonial period, it was completely dismantled, leaving only small stone remnants. It was restored to its original form in 1993, and its eaves and ceiling were repaired in 2005 after suffering damage.    As the home of pears, Naju grows various pear cultivars. Consequently, pear blossoms bloom at slightly different times: early-ripening varieties like Singo and Hwanggeum bloom fully around April 20, while late-ripening varieties like Mansamgil and Geumchonchu bloom fully around April 25, blanketing the entirety of Naju like white snow. Pear blossoms do not have the flamboyance of plum blossoms or cherry blossoms, but exude an understated elegance instead.
