   Historic Site of Cotton Cultivation

   This is the historic site where Mun Ik-jeom first cultivated cotton in Korea during the reign of King Gongmin in the late Goryeo Dynasty. In 1363 (the 12th year of King Gongmin's reign), Mun Ik-jeom visited Yuan China as an envoy and brought back cotton seeds hidden inside the shaft of a writing brush. He conducted experimental cultivation together with his father-in-law, Jeong Cheon-ik; initially lacking cultivation knowledge, they managed to keep only a single plant alive. After three years of dedicated effort, they succeeded in spreading cotton cultivation nationwide.    Presumed Tomb of King Guhyeong, Sancheong

   산청 전 구형왕릉

   Unlike ordinary earthen mounds, this stone tomb, believed to be that of King Guhyeong, is built in stepped square tiers using rubble along a slope descending from west to east. While the front consists of seven tiers, the slope steepens toward the rear, resulting in tiers that decrease in height. The stone alignment forms curves rather than straight lines in the front, the corners are not distinct, and the summit forms an oval mound shape. The front central height is 7.15 meters, and although its exact purpose remains unknown, a niche measuring 40 cm wide, 40 cm high, and 68 cm deep is installed on the east side of the fourth tier.MoreLess
