   Jinju National Museum opened in November 1984 as a national institution dedicated to introducing Gaya culture and conducting archaeological research and surveys in western Gyeongsangnam-do. Located inside Jinjuseong Fortress—the site of the fiercest battle during the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea)—and reflecting the growing national interest in the Imjin War, it reopened in January 1998 as a specialized history museum on the Imjin War. Starting in 1997, the museum borrowed about 600 artifacts related to the Imjin War from home and abroad, and collected 56 more in 1998, establishing its role as a dedicated Imjin War museum.
