   Hoeamsa Temple Site, Yangju

   The ancient Hoeamsa Temple was historically recorded as the foremost temple in the East and a national temple of Korea. After falling into ruin, only parts of the site—such as stone walls, stylobates, and stairs—remained. In 1964, the area was designated as Historic Site No. 128 for preservation and management. Since 1996, long-term survey and excavation plans, along with bypass road construction, were established, with the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum currently conducting surveys and excavations.
