   Tomb of King Gongyang of Goryeo

   고려 공양왕릉

   This is the royal tomb of King Gongyang, the last king of the Goryeo Dynasty, and his consort, Royal Consort Sunbi of the No clan. Designated as Historic Site No. 191, this site features twin mounds for the king and queen. In front of the mounds stand a stele, a stone table (sangseok), and a stone lantern (jangmyeongdeung). There are also two pairs of civil and military official statues on either side and one stone tiger statue. The style and craftsmanship of the stone sculptures are simple and modest, reflecting the traditional characteristics of various Goryeo royal tombs. Meanwhile, another tomb reputed to be that of King Gongyang is located in Geundeok-myeon, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do, fueling an ongoing debate over which one is the true tomb of King Gongyang.MoreLess

   Seooreung refers to the five royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty: Gyeongneung, Changneung, Ingneung, Myeongneung, and Hongneung. In addition to the five royal tombs, Sunchangwon, the tomb of Crown Prince Sunhoe (the eldest son of King Myeongjong), is located within the grounds, along with Sugyeongwon, the tomb of Royal Noble Consort Yeong of the Yi clan (the biological mother of Crown Prince Sado). Recently, Daebinmyo, the tomb of Royal Noble Consort Hui of the Jang clan (a concubine of King Sukjong), was also relocated here.
