   Ganjeolgot Lighthouse

   As the place where the first sunrise of the new millennium rose earliest on the Korean Peninsula, Ganjeolgot Cape in Daesong-ri, Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun is where visitors can greet the very first sunrise on the East Coast.    Bangudae Petroglyphs in Daegok-ri, Ulju

   울주 대곡리 반구대 암각화

   The Bangudae Petroglyphs in Daegok-ri, Ulsan Metropolitan City, have been a representative cultural heritage of Ulsan since they were first discovered in 1971 by an investigation team from Dongguk University. Evaluated as significant material not only for the Ulsan region but also for the study of Korean petroglyphs, their importance was widely recognized, leading to their designation as National Treasure No. 285 in 1995. The petroglyphs are carved on the west cliff face of an artificial lake in the Bangudae area upstream of the Taehwagang River, the lifeline of Ulsan.    Chisanseowon Confucian Academy

   치산서원

   Bak Je-sang, a descendant of Bak Hyeokgeose, was ordered by King Nulji to bring back the royal younger brothers who had been sent as hostages to Goguryeo and Wa (Japan) during the reign of King Silseong. Bak Je-sang went as an envoy to Goguryeo to bring back Bok-ho first, and then went to Wa to rescue Misaheun, but died after being burned following severe torture. At Chisullyeong Ridge east of Manhwa-ri, Dudong-myeon, there remain Mangbuseok Rock and Euneuram Hermitage, which are associated with the legend that Bak Je-sang's wife waited for her husband with her two daughters, died, and turned into Mangbuseok Rock, while her soul flew away as a bird and hid. Later, King Nulji posthumously granted Bak Je-sang the title of Daeachan and bestowed his wife the title of Gukdaebuin.
