Enjoying an Oxygen Bath in Forests and Lakes: Beat the Heat

Every year from late July to early August, the Jjokbae (Canoe) Festival takes place around Bungeoseom Island and the Public Sports Park in Hwacheon-gun. Held every summer in Hwacheon, the "Land of Water," this festival attracts many visitors. A variety of water sports, such as water bicycles on the Bukhangang River, kayaking, and dragon boat racing, offer delightful fun. The Haneulgareugi (zip-line) running between the Public Sports Park finish tower and the central tower of Bungeoseom Island also provides thrilling excitement.

   Paroho Security Exhibition Hall

   Built in 1990 in Guman-ri, Gandong-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, the Paroho Security Exhibition Hall thoroughly documents the Battle of Paroho. The first floor displays the county's modern history, the heroic exploits of the Republic of Korea Army 6th Infantry Division soldiers at Paroho—who annihilated three Chinese communist divisions and defended the Hwacheon Dam during the Korean War—and the history of victorious engagements in the Hwacheon area, such as the Battle of Paroho and the Battle of Hill 643.
