   Starting in 2001, Namhae-gun invested around 3 billion KRW to develop basic infrastructure on a 99,174 m² (approx. 30,000 pyeong) site in Mulgeon-ri, Samdong-myeon, near Natural Monument No. 150. The county divided the area into lots for about 70 residential buildings to help Korean expatriates returning from Germany—who had dedicated themselves to the motherland's modernization and economic development during the difficult 1960s—settle down, provide them with a warm home, and develop a distinctive tourist destination blending exotic German culture with the traditional arts village. Returning residents directly imported building materials from Germany to construct traditional German-style houses. Currently, about 15 houses are completed where expatriates reside, some of which operate guesthouses for tourists while the owners are away in Germany.    In Namhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, where 70 large and small islands and a 302-kilometer coastline bring mountains and the sea into perfect harmony, lies the Mulgeon-ri Windbreak and Fish-Shelter Forest in Samdong-myeon, which has protected the village against harsh winds and waves and attracted fish for over 300 years. Ranking 10th among the 12 Scenic Views of Namhae, this crescent-shaped forest along the coast spans 1,500 meters in length and about 30 meters in width, covering an area of 23,438 m², and is publicly owned by the village residents. The trees generally range from 10 to 15 meters in height, with around 2,000 upper-canopy trees. Home to nearly 100 species—including deciduous trees like hackberries, sawtooth oaks, zelkovas, fringe trees, and Japanese hackberries, as well as evergreens like Machilus thunbergii—it resembles an outdoor arboretum.
