A Stroll Along the Cherry Blossom Tunnel by the Blue Waters of Chungjuho Lake

Every April, Chungjuho Lake is painted in shades of cherry blossoms. In tune with this season, the Chungjuho Spring Outing Festival is held. It is a festival where visitors can walk through cherry blossom tunnels on both banks of the lake and enjoy various hands-on activities in a park bathed in warm sunshine. Events such as walking along the cherry blossom trail, art and music performances, and making cherry blossom handkerchiefs are also prepared. The Right Bank Park, where the event takes place, is a cozy park featuring ponds, benches, and various sculptures, making it a great spot to enjoy the spring sunshine while having a picnic.

   Chungjuho Lake Jongdaengi-gil Trail is a walking path where you can look out over the refreshing views of Chungjuho Lake while enjoying the pristine forest. It is a relaxing trail allowing visitors to appreciate both the lake and the forest. The name "Jongdaengi" originates from the old names of the nearby Sangjong and Hajong villages, carrying the warm nuance of the Chungcheong-do dialect.    Chungju Mireukdaewon Temple Site

   The Mireuksa Temple Site has been identified as a rectangular temple ground of approximately 46,280 m² laid out in a style featuring one pagoda and one main hall. Within the Mireuk-ri Temple Site, there are Treasure No. 95 (Five-Story Stone Pagoda) and Treasure No. 96 (Standing Stone Buddha), along with Local Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 19 (Stone Lantern) and No. 33 (Three-Story Stone Pagoda). The Jungwon Mireuk-ri Temple Site is the site of a stone cave temple combining stone and wooden architectural structures, and is a unique historical site that adopted the rare north-facing style where the stone cave served as the main Buddha hall. Furthermore, the stone Buddha at the Mireuksa Temple Site is Korea's only north-facing Buddha statue; the square main chamber of the stone cave housing the statue measures 9.8m wide and 10.75m long, constructed with large foundation stones to a height of 6m, within which the Buddha statue was enshrined.    Haneuljae Pass Trekking

   Passing slightly beyond the Three-Story Stone Pagoda at the Mireuksa Temple Site on Woraksan Mountain, a small trail appears to the left. Facing picturesque scenery of red pines (hwangjangmok), daimyo oaks, and Japanese black pines in the distance, this trail, where a refreshing breeze flows beneath clear skies, is known as "Haneuljae Pass." Although the ditch running down the left side of the path sometimes dries up due to drought, the surrounding craggy cliffs, mountain peaks, and roadside wild flowers such as deep pink touch-me-nots, deep purple synurus, and yellow agrimonies warmly greet travelers. At first glance, Haneuljae Pass (525m above sea level) was named for its appearance of touching the sky, but it is not as high as its name suggests. Serving as a provincial boundary connecting Mireuk-ri, Sangmo-myeon, Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do and Gwaneum-ri, Mungyeong-eup, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, walking up for about 30 to 40 minutes (2 km) from Mireuk-ri leads directly to Gwaneum-ri in Mungyeong. The rugged unpaved road connects to a straight asphalt road upon reaching the crest of Haneuljae Pass, where the summit of Mount Daemisan (1,115m above sea level) in Mungyeong comes faintly into view to the west.
