   Sutasa Temple

   Gongjaksan Mountain stands at an elevation of 887 meters. From its summit, the entirety of Hongcheon-gun comes into view at a glance, and its name comes from the mountain's shape resembling a peacock spreading its wings. Viewed from Hongcheon-eup, it also looks like a giant lying down facing the sky. Royal azaleas in spring and autumn foliage in fall are exceptionally beautiful, and its sheer cliffs, bonsai-shaped old pine groves, and snow-covered winter landscape are also superb. Situated at the foot of Gongjaksan Mountain, one of Korea's top 100 famous mountains, Sutasa Temple is a thousand-year-old temple said to have been founded by Great Monk Wonhyo in 708 (the 7th year of King Seongdeok, the 33rd ruler of Silla). It preserves a hipped-and-gabled Daejeokgwangjeon Hall, a bronze bell cast in 1364, and a three-story stone pagoda.    Mugunghwa Park

   Hongcheon-gun lies roughly in the center of Gangwon-do, stretching westward while resting its head on the Taebaeksanmaek Mountain Range to the east. Hongcheon has many remote backcountry areas, but it is also the land of mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon). Located in Hongcheon-eup, Mugunghwa Park honors the achievements of Hanseo Namgung Eok, a patriot who widely promoted the mugunghwa during the late Joseon and Korean Empire periods.
