   Gukhyeongsa Temple

   Founded by Master Muchak during the reign of King Gyeongsun of Silla, it was originally named Gomunam, where Master Muchak practiced Buddhism as a major Dharma propagation site. Although it is said to have been founded in the Silla Dynasty, no relics or remains from that period survive to prove this today. It is said that King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty built Dongakdan Altar at this temple to enshrine the Dongak deity, where the magistrates of Wonju, Hoengseong, Yeongwon, Pyeongchang, and Jeongseon gathered each year to offer memorial rituals.
