Exploring Unique Alleys of Sangsu-dong in Seoul

This course explores the unique streets of Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Though somber, the War and Women's Human Rights Museum offers an opportunity to reexamine history through the lives of 'comfort women' survivors. You can also tour Yoon's Color, a distinctive space featuring drama productions; Loop, where you can see works with fresh perspectives by young artists; and, of course, the vibrant youth culture in the area around Hongdae. This space where culture and art coexist offers a charm that can only be experienced in Seoul.

   Located in Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Yoon's Color (formerly Four Seasons House) exhibits props, on-site photographs, and drama sets used in director Yoon Seok-ho's Four Seasons series , , , , which captured pure love in beautiful visuals as representative works of the Korean Wave.    Alternative Space Loop

   Alternative Space Loop opened in February 1999 as one of only a few alternative spaces. As a non-profit gallery, it is a venue that supports promising young artists with exhibition spaces and overall exhibition-related matters, and currently receives funding from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea. Since its opening, it has held over a dozen exhibitions and performances each year and has engaged in various international exchange activities, including participating in the Tirana Biennale.
