Space Science Experience Tour

Naro Space Center. This tour visits the site of Korea's first satellite launch center built by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) under the Basic Plan for Space Development Promotion. Although the inside of Naro Space Center is not yet open for public tours, you can satisfy your curiosity at the Space Science Museum, which introduces Naro Space Center in detail. You will also visit Goheung Yuja Park, commemorating Goheung's famous specialty yuja (citron), before heading to Sorokdo Island. Sorokdo Island was isolated from the outside world for a long time due to prejudice against Hansen's disease patients, but it is now being reborn as a beautiful tourist island.

   Naro Space Center features a Space Science Museum that serves as an exhibition and educational facility for space science and technology, as well as a visitor center. With a total site area of 58,831㎡, a total floor area of 8,914㎡, and a total exhibition area of 2,870.56㎡, the Space Science Museum consists of exhibits on basic principles, rockets, satellites, and outer space (59 types of exhibits in total, including 29 interactive exhibits), a 4D theater (planned), and an outdoor exhibition area, allowing growing students and youth to learn and experience space science and technology.    Goheung Yuja Park

   Located along the national highway (Handong-ri, Pungyang-myeon) between Goheung and Nokdong, the representative yuja-producing areas in Korea, the park is easily accessible.    Nokdong Port

   Nokdong Port is a major maritime transportation hub on the southern coast where tourists and freight volume are expected to significantly increase once the 4-lane expansion of National Route 27 connecting Beolgyo, Goheung, and Nokdong opens and the bridge connecting Nokdong Port with Geogeumdo (Geumsan), the 3rd largest island in Korea, is completed in 2010. It is a quiet and prosperous typical port town with a population of 15,000. It serves as a base connecting nearby islands and is famous as a collection center for all kinds of seafood, such as live and fresh fish, seaweed, kelp, and anchovies produced in each island, allowing visitors to purchase various seafood produced in the coastal waters of Goheung at reasonable prices.    Sorokdo Island

   Sorokdo Island is located less than 1 km from Nokdong Port at the tip of the Goheung Peninsula in Jeollanam-do. It is named Sorokdo because the shape of the island resembles a young deer (sorok). This island is famous for housing the National Sorokdo Hospital for patients with Hansen's disease. While it was once an island steeped in the sorrows and joys of Hansen's disease patients, today about 700 patients have overcome their past sorrow and are cultivating love and hope here.
