   Osan-ri Prehistoric Museum

   The site was discovered in 1977 during lake reclamation by digging sand dunes to create agricultural land. Through six excavation rounds starting in 1981, 14 circular dwelling sites, steatite and stone-mound features, and large quantities of stone tools and pottery were uncovered. Radiocarbon dating of the excavated artifacts confirmed the Osan-ri site to date around 6000 B.C., making it the oldest Neolithic site in Korea. It was designated as Historic Site No. 394 in recognition of its importance in clarifying the origins of Korean Neolithic culture and understanding cultural correlations in East Asia. Yangyang-gun plans to install various facilities, such as site maintenance, hands-on learning areas, an outdoor exhibition area, and exploration trails by the end of 2009 to provide visitor convenience.    Namdaecheon Stream

   About 2 km upstream from the estuary where Namdaecheon Stream meets the East Sea, two rows of green net fences are installed across the approximately 50-meter-wide river, running parallel to each other like alley walls perpendicular to the water flow. These are salmon capture nets installed by the Yeongdong Inland Fisheries Research Institute under the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, catching salmon returning each autumn to their home waters of Namdaecheon Stream.    Donghaesinmyo is a historic site where sacrificial rituals were held to the Dragon King of the East Sea to pray for national peace, bumper crops, and rich hauls of fish.
