Stepping into Goryeong, Home to the Ancient Culture of Gaya

Goryeong was the center of the ancient kingdom of Gaya, and is thus rich in Gaya relics. It is a great course to visit if you have children studying history. In particular, Ureuk Museum allows visitors to explore materials related to the gayageum, Korea's traditional musical instrument. Because the distances are short, this course is well-suited for walking.

   Gaegyeongpo Park

   Gaegyeongpo Memorial Park was created in 2001 to reflect on the historical significance of Gaegyeongpo in Goryeong-gun along the Nakdonggang River. The park features a well-manicured, spacious lawn equipped with a monument and inscribed stone recounting the origin of Gaegyeongpo, resting areas such as octagonal pavilions and benches, and drinking fountains. Gaegyeongpo was a major port that transported grains and salt to the inland areas of Gyeongsang-do until the Joseon Dynasty. In other words, it was a vital center of life in Gyeongsang-do, and a place where the "Seven Worthies of Nakgang" (Nakgang Chilhyeon), including Songam Kim Myeon, Oksan Lee Gi-chun, and Cheonghwidang Lee Seung, recited poetry while enjoying boat rides due to the stunning scenic beauty along the river route.
