Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory in Yeongcheon: Connecting with the Starlight

Stargazing is a delightful experience anywhere, but the stars seem a little closer when viewed from Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. Ranked among Korea's top three astronomical observatories, it is well worth a visit for anyone interested in stars. The night sky over the nearby Yeongcheon Starlight Village shines even more brilliantly. If you visit in April or May, you can also join the Starlight Festival.

   Eunhaesa Temple

   Eunhaesa is a representative temple of the Gyeongbuk region, having served as one of the 31 head temples of the Joseon dynasty, one of the five major head temples of Gyeongbuk, and currently the head temple of the 10th parish of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is also famous as an Amitabha sanctuary among parish head temples, enshrining Amitabha Buddha as its principal icon. Eunhaesa traces its history back to Haeansa Temple, founded on Haeanpyeong by Master Hyecheol in 809 (the 1st year of King Heondeok of Silla). At its summit stands Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, which anyone can easily visit without special procedures.
