   Unlike the commonly seen crooked pine trees, the pine trees growing along the Taebaeksan Mountain Range from Geumgangsan Mountain across Uljin, Bonghwa, Yeongdeok, and parts of Cheongsong have straight trunks, long nodes, and remarkably reddish bark. Scholars named this pine 'Geumgangsong' (Geumgang pine) or 'Gangsong' after Mount Geumgang, and it is also widely known as 'Chunyangmok'. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as the finest among pine trees because of its fine, sturdy grain, resistance to bending or cracking even after being sawn, and great durability against decay.
