Visiting Songso Historic House and Jusanji Pond in Cheongsong

Songso Historic House, a major historic site in Cheongsong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a grand noble mansion consisting of 7 buildings and 99 kan (traditional bays). Once referred to as the 'House of the Three Wealthy Generations,' it is renowned as a cultural heritage site that flawlessly preserves a traditional yangban (aristocratic) residence. Yasong Art Museum, the nearby dragon-shaped rock, and the widely known Jusanji Pond are also key attractions of Cheongsong.

   This building is said to have been constructed around 1880 when Songso Sim Ho-taek, a 7th-generation descendant of Sim Cheo-dae (who amassed great wealth during the reign of King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty), moved from Hobakgol to Deokcheon-dong, the ancestral home. The main gate is a raised gate (soseuldaemun) adorned with red spires (hongsal), and the main sarangchae (men's quarters) is a grand and magnificent building with 5 kan across the front and 2 kan on the sides topped with a hipped-and-gabled roof (paljakjibung), serving as the residence of the master of the house.    Hyeonbiam Rock

   Rising about 20 meters high as if emerging from the Yongjeoncheon Stream in Cheongsong-eup, this cliff features deep and clear waters below that give a chilling sensation just by looking at it. Standing like a folding screen along Yongjeoncheon Stream, which runs through Cheongsong-eup, Cheongsong-gun, this wondrous cliff creates a breathtaking view with various beautiful trees reflected on the river's surface.    Jusanji Pond

   Located about 3 km from Ijeon-ri, the center of Budong-myeon in Cheongsong-gun, this reservoir was completed about 270 years ago. Measuring 100 meters long, 50 meters wide, and 7.8 meters deep, it is not particularly large, but it is said that its waters have never dried up to reveal its bottom no matter how severe the drought. In particular, around 20 weeping willows and king willows about 150 years old growing naturally in the water create a cozy ambiance along with the dense forest, and the hiking trail leading from here along the valley to Byeolbawi Rock also boasts a highly charming landscape.
