   Site of Gosongjeong Pavilion

   This was the home of Kim Chung-ju, grandson of Kim Mun-gi, who suffered a tragic fate for taking part in the movement to restore King Danjong to the throne. Kim Chung-ju fled the capital by night, wandered from place to place, and eventually went into hiding in Hwajeong-dong, where he built a house of woven grass and made his living burning and selling charcoal, taking for himself the pen name 'Tanong' (Old Man of Charcoal). It is said he never ate meat or drank alcohol for the rest of his life and always wore hemp clothing and a flat bamboo hat. Whenever his feelings for Danjong stirred, he would gaze toward Yeongwol, where Danjong's tomb lies, and weep bitterly; and it is said that the pine tree nearby withered and died from the tears he shed grieving the tragic deaths of his grandfather and father. \nMoreLess

   Sasechungnyeolmun Gate (Gate of Four Generations' Loyalty)

   Sasechungnyeolmun is a set of commemorative gates — a Loyal Subject Gate and Virtuous Woman Gates — bestowed by the royal court to honor the patriotic loyalty of General Kim Yeo-mul (1548–1592), who died in service during the Japanese invasions of 1592, and the virtuous spirit of the women of the Kim Yeo-mul family across four generations of mothers- and daughters-in-law who took their own lives when Qing forces invaded during the Manchu invasion of 1636.
