   The stream that rises on Mt. Chilgapsan flows in the order of the Eoeulha Stream, Jakcheon, Jicheon, and Geumgangcheon, and along the way, Jakcheon and Jicheon form gorges and beautiful mountain-and-water scenery through Onjik-ri, Guchi-ri, Gaegok-ri, Janggok-ri, Jakcheon-ri, and Jicheon-ri. Because the flowing bends of the stream are so intricate and the unusual rock formations so beautiful, the area is called Jicheon Gugok ("Nine Bends of Jicheon").    Janggoksa Temple

   Janggoksa Temple sits along a hiking trail on Mt. Chilgapsan. Founded in the 12th century, the temple is simple and neat. What catches the eye is its two main halls -- the Upper Daeungjeon and the Lower Daeungjeon -- which differ in shape and orientation. The layout is such that climbing the stairs beside the lower Daeungjeon leads up to the upper one.    Buyeo Muryangsa Temple

   Muryangsa is the largest temple in Buyeo, situated in a forest at the foot of Mt. Mansusan in Oesan, thick with pine trees and flowing with plentiful water. The temple is said to have been founded by State Preceptor Beomil during the Unified Silla period, flourished greatly during Goryeo, was burned down in the Japanese invasions of 1592-98, and was rebuilt during the reign of King Injo of Joseon (1636-1646).
