   Hyeonchungsa Shrine

   현충사

   Located at the foot of Mt. Banghwasan, 4km from Onyang Hot Springs, Hyeonchungsa Shrine is dedicated to Admiral Yi Sun-sin (posthumous title Chungmugong). It was first built in 1706, the 32nd year of King Sukjong's reign, and the following year King Sukjong personally bestowed the name "Hyeonchungsa." The main hall houses a portrait of Admiral Yi and the Sipgyeongdo, a set of paintings depicting scenes from his life. The grounds also include a relics hall displaying his War Diary (National Treasure No. 76) and long sword (Treasure No. 326), the old house where he lived, an archery ground, and a memorial gate.    Designated Important Folklore Cultural Heritage No. 236, Oeam Folk Village in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do has existed as a settlement for about 500 years. It preserves historic houses of the local yangban gentry in the distinctive Chungcheong style, thatched stone walls totaling 5.3km, and gardens, along with a large collection of folk implements and folk artifacts. House names such as Chambandaek, Byeongsadaek, Gamchaldaek, Chambongdaek, Jongsondaek, Songhwadaek, Yeongamdaek, and Sinchangdaek were given based on the official titles or hometowns of the house owners, and the stream flowing down from the Seolhwasan valley behind the village is channeled in to serve as garden water for the ponds and as water for fire prevention.    Dangnim Art Museum stands where veteran painter and Academy of Arts member Lee Jong-mu, a native of this area, returned to work vigorously until his passing on May 26, 2003. It opened on June 14, 1997, and is now managed by his son, Lee Kyung-ryul, as director. The museum holds a collection of over 1,000 works, including Eastern paintings, Western paintings, and prints and sculptures, and features an outdoor sculpture park of about 800 pyeong, along with a gallery and restaurant.
