   Cheonan Museum

   Cheonan Museum is a place where you can see, all in one spot, the big and small histories of people who have lived -- or still live -- in Cheonan. It gathers scenes of rural life from the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, and you can view a model of the Bongseon Honggyeongsa Temple Stele -- designated National Treasure No. 7 -- along with detailed information about it. A separate Cheonan Samgeori room has also been created, recreating the story of the Cheonan crossroads where scholars and travelers heading to the state exams once gathered and dispersed.    Gakwonsa Temple

   각원사

   Mt. Taejosan is the guardian mountain of Cheonan, forming the watershed between the Yuryangcheon and Sanbangcheon streams; from its summit you can look down over all of Cheonan. It is said the mountain was named "Taejosan" after a legend that King Taejo Wang Geon of Goryeo trained his troops there. Gakwonsa Temple, of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, was enshrined at the middle peak of Mt. Taejosan on May 9, 1977, funded by the devoted donations of Buddhist followers and many others praying for the reunification of North and South Korea. MoreLess

   Bongseon Honggyeongsa Temple Stele, Cheonan

   The site of Bongseon Honggyeongsa Temple was once sparsely inhabited, overgrown with weeds, and travelers were said to be troubled by bandits who occasionally appeared there. In response, King Hyeonjong of Goryeo ordered a temple to be built, and under the supervision of Minister of War Gang Min-cheom, over 200 kan were completed in the 12th year of his reign (1021).
