   Yangnyeongsi (藥令市) was originally established by royal decree during the reign of King Hyojong of Joseon, with provincial governors stationed in major herb-producing regions to gather precious medicinal herbs, forming a hub for herb merchants. At that time it was a seasonal market held twice a year — a spring market and an autumn market — timed to the harvesting seasons of medicinal herbs.
