The Road to the Love Tree of Seongheungsanseong Fortress

This walk lets you feel and encounter the brilliant culture and rise and fall of Baekje. Tour Baekje Cultural Land, home to Sabigung Palace, the royal palace of Baekje, Neungsa Tomb Park, and residential spaces showing how the Baekje people lived, then walk on to Seongheungsanseong Fortress, which offers a full view of the lower Geumgang River. The 'Love Tree,' now a landmark of Seongheungsanseong, is a massive zelkova tree that has appeared in numerous historical dramas as the backdrop for scenes of romance between the male and female leads.

   Below Imcheon Seongheungsanseong Fortress, built in 501 AD, stands Daejosa Temple and its stone Maitreya Buddha statue, which carries the legend of a golden bird. Founded over a five-year period beginning in the 5th year of King Seong of Baekje's reign, Daejosa carries a mysterious legend passed down through generations. The temple is said to have been named Daejosa ('Great Bird Temple') because a great golden bird appeared, and the stone Buddha statue is said to have been carved into a large rock where Avalokitesvara (Gwanseeum Bosal) appeared.    Buyeo Garimseong (former Buyeo Seongheungsanseong Fortress)

   Seongheungsanseong is a stone fortress built near the lower Geumgang River to protect Ungjinseong and Sabiseong, the capitals of Baekje.
