Becoming Water on the Valley Climb, a Tree on the Forest Walk

   Yongmunsa Temple

   용문사

   Located partway up Mt. Yongmunsan, about 9km northeast of Yongmun Station on the Jungang Line, Yongmunsa Temple was built by Great Master Daegyeong in the 2nd year of King Sindeok of Silla (913). It was rebuilt during King Sejong's reign and came to house two Buddha statues and eight bodhisattva statues.    Saneum Natural Recreation Forest

   Saneum means 'mountain shade,' a name given because the area is surrounded on all sides by peaks such as Pokssan, Bongmisan, Sorisan, and Ssaribong, keeping it perpetually in shadow. Along the valley of the recreation forest, a primeval mixed forest of oak, dogwood, ash, maple, pine, kiwi vine, and azalea grows alongside planted stands of larch, birch, and Korean pine, together forming the forest's ecosystem. The clear streams flowing through the woods, along with fireflies and wildlife such as varied tits, nuthatches, great tits, brown-eared bulbuls, black woodpeckers, wild boars, water deer, and otters, present a beautiful picture of nature and wildlife living side by side.
