   Baeron Holy Site

   Geographically, Baeron Holy Site sits in a rugged mountain area encircled by the ridges of Guhaksan and Baegunsan, which rise on the southeastern foot of Chiaksan — a secluded mountain valley cut off from the outside world, yet also a transportation crossroads: a mere 10 ri along a mountain path reaches the top of Bakdalje Pass, from where the road continues through Chungju and Cheongju to Jeolla Province, while crossing Jungnyeong Pass from Jecheon leads to Gyeongsang Province, and on through Wonju to Gangwon Province.    Taksajeong Pavilion

   Located along National Route 5 between Jecheon and Wonju (13km from Jecheon toward Wonju) and 1km from Guhak Station on the Jungang Line between Jecheon and Wonju, Taksajeong is a beautiful valley combining white sand, clear water, and old pines, and is one of Jecheon's leading summer retreats. 'Taksajeong,' one of the Nine Scenic Views of Jecheon, refers not to the pavilion itself but to the stunning scenery surrounding it.    On the way to Chiaksan Recreational Forest, via Baeron Holy Site, the birthplace of Catholicism's spread in Korea, you'll come across an eye-catching restaurant. Its name, Ttorangil ('Streamside Path'), is unusual — though it isn't actually next to a stream. The restaurant is neatly decorated inside and out with log timber. The food is as tidy as the restaurant's warm, light-wood interior.
