Camping Trip at Ttangkkeut (Land's End)

Ttangkkeut Village, at Korea's southernmost point, is a place worth visiting for its meaning alone. Along the road from downtown Haenam to Ttangkkeut Village, you'll pass in turn Nogudang, the historic site of Gosan Yun Seon-do, Mihwangsa Temple on Dalmasan, and Daejuk Village, where you can experience the tidal flats. In the beautiful pine forest of Songho-ri Beach stands Ttangkkeut Auto Campground, a perfect spot to enjoy camping.

   Haenam Yun Clan's Nogudang

   About 4km south of Haenam-eup, at the historic site associated with Gosan Yun Seon-do, stand Nogudang, the head house of the Haenam Yun clan, and a relics hall. Nogudang, the old residence of Gosan Yun Seon-do, is the largest and oldest surviving private house in Jeollanam-do. Built in a rectangular layout, it centers on a main hall and a guest hall surrounding the inner courtyard, with several outer gate buildings; behind the house, beyond the wall, stands Chuwondang (memorial hall), and to its east is the shrine to Yun Hyo-jeong (Eochoeun-gong), the branch founder of the Haenam Yun clan, and to Yun Seon-do. \nMoreLess

   Dalmasan and Mihwangsa Temple

   Dalmasan rises as a long rocky ridge at the southern edge of Haenam-gun. Where National Route 13, which runs from Duryunsan and Daedunsan on to Wando, passes through Dakgoljae, the mountain ridge -- resembling a series of low hills up to that point -- abruptly transforms into sharp rocky crags. Mihwangsa is an old temple supporting the theory that Buddhism reached Korea by sea; in the past it was a great temple complex with some 20 halls large and small, and its main hall, Daeungjeon, Treasure No. 947, is an outstanding building both in scale and in the refinement of its craftsmanship. \nMoreLess
