Visiting Duryunsan and Daeheungsa, the Mountain That Will Never Crumble for Ten Thousand Generations

Daeheungsa Temple nestles within Duryunsan in Haenam. Daeheungsa is said to be 'the one place untouched by the three disasters, including war, and a place that will remain unmarred for ten thousand years' -- it is also where Master Seosan's golden robe and cassock were enshrined after his passing. Besides Daeheungsa, it's also worth riding the Duryunsan cable car to take in the spectacular views of both Duryunsan and the archipelago together.

   Duryunsan Daeheungsa Temple

   Daeheungsa is located within Duryunsan Provincial Park, about 12km southeast of Haenam-eup. Afterward, the temple's influence grew, and continuing to receive his teachings, it went on to produce 13 great masters and 13 great lecturers into the modern era, establishing itself as a leading center of both the meditation and scriptural schools of Buddhism.    Duryunsan Cable Car

   Duryunsan, a renowned mountain in the southern provinces, is also called Daedunsan. It stands 703m tall, made up of eight peaks large and small. The cable car line is 1,600m long, with a one-way ride taking about 8 minutes.    Bohae Plum Orchard

   In 1979, Bohae established Korea's largest plum orchard, spanning about 140,000 pyeong, in Sani-myeon, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, planting 14,500 plum trees. Around late March, when the plum blossoms reach full bloom, the entire orchard looks as if blanketed in white snow, with the surrounding area of Yejeong-ri in Sani-myeon wrapped in a soft pink glow that draws in visitors.    Uhang-ri Dinosaur Fossil Natural History Site

   There was once a lake on the Korean peninsula large enough to rival the Great Lakes of North America. This sea cliff is a sedimentary rock layer formed during the Cretaceous period, composed mainly of shale and sandstone.
