Gageodo, the Island Where You Can Hear China's Roosters Crow

Gageodo, an island 136km from Mokpo, takes four and a half hours to reach by passenger ferry, but true to its name -- meaning 'an island worth living on' -- time spent here feels like a special, dreamlike escape. Gageodo's attractions can only be enjoyed on foot: the various hiking trails leading up to Doksilsan, Hoeryongsan with its panoramic views of Gageodo Port and Daeri Village, the coastal road linking Daeri and Hangri, and the scenic Seomdeung Peninsula and Gageodo Lighthouse.
