   Odongdo Island

   Odongdo is an island so associated with camellia flowers that mentioning Yeosu brings Odongdo to mind, and mentioning Odongdo brings camellias to mind. It also marks the starting and ending point of Hallyeohaesang National Park. From central Yeosu, it's about a 10-minute drive to the parking lot at the entrance of Odongdo; from there, walking the 768m breakwater path takes about 15 minutes to reach the island.    Hyangiram Hermitage

   Hyangiram is one of Korea's four major Avalokitesvara (Gwaneum) prayer sites, founded in 644, the 4th year of King Uija of Baekje, by the Silla monk Wonhyo, who first called it Wontongam. In the 9th year of King Gwangjong of Goryeo (958), the lay Buddhist Yunpil renamed it Geumoam, and in the 41st year of King Sukjong of Joseon (1715), the monk Inmuk renamed it Hyangiram. The temple gained its present form through the restoration and construction of Wontongbojeon Hall, Samseonggak Shrine, Gwaneumjeon Hall, Yongwangjeon Hall, a bell pavilion, and a statue of the Sea Gwaneum; after a fire destroyed the Daeungjeon (Wontongbojeon) Hall, the temple administration office (Yeonggu-am), and the bell pavilion on December 20, 2009, they were rebuilt and a completion ceremony was held on May 6, 2012.\nMoreLess

In addition to wild-caught live rockfish, flounder, and sea bream and spicy fish stew straight from the waters off Yeosu, the menu also includes raw fish rice bowls, doenjang stew, stir-fried octopus, and abalone porridge. \n[Jongjeom Hoetjip] \nThe raw fish here is all wild-caught, brought in directly by boat from the waters off Yeosu. It's also sliced from live fish rather than frozen, giving it a tender texture and great flavor. The side dishes of mussels, conch, and sea squirt are also gathered directly by local haenyeo (women divers).    Geumodo Island

   Located within Dadohae Marine National Park, Geumodo is named for its resemblance to a large turtle, and a wide variety of folk tales, legends, folk songs, and traditional games have been passed down here. Its forests are dense, with a particularly large distribution of camellia trees and wild ginseng, and during the Joseon dynasty the royal court forbade civilian settlement here and used the island for deer hunting. It is also famous as one of Korea's largest spawning grounds for black porgy, and as a fishing spot it draws avid anglers thanks to abundant catches of black porgy as well as red seabream and rock bream.
