A Journey to Meet Nature and Literature in Chuncheon

   Kim Yu-jeong Literary Village

   The Kim Yu-jeong Literary Village has a map of the village along with information boards explaining which of Kim Yu-jeong's works each location inspired. Reading signs explaining that the hill behind is the setting of <Camellia Flowers>, that this waterwheel is the very one from <A Stranger in the Mountains>, and that the house up there belonged to Kim Bong-pil, the father-in-law figure in <Spring, Spring>, you realize that all of Sillemaeul Village was both the birthplace and the actual setting of Kim Yu-jeong's works.    Gugok Falls

   Gugok Falls, a spectacular 50m torrent winding through nine bends near Mt. Bonghwasan before cascading down, was designated a Chuncheon tourist site on February 13, 1981, and covers an area of 2,423㎢. It takes about 20 minutes on foot from the Gugok Falls ticket office to reach the falls, whose height and grandeur blend beautifully with the surrounding scenery, and the oddly shaped rocks of the Haneulbyeok (Sky Wall) formation are enough to take your breath away.    [Gyeonggang Makguksu] This restaurant specializes only in suyuk (boiled pork) and makguksu (buckwheat noodles), yet it is always packed with customers. Unlike other makguksu restaurants, it makes its noodles from 100% buckwheat. Its biggest distinction is that it never prepares the noodles or slices the suyuk in advance — both are freshly made only after an order comes in.    Jade Garden preserves the natural valley terrain as it is, styling its flowers, trees, architecture, and building layout in a European fashion.    Nami Island Resort

   Nami Island is an inland island on the border of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do, formed when the waters of the Bukhangang River rose after Cheongpyeong Dam was built in 1944. In 1965, philanthropist Min Byeong-do (1916–2006) purchased the land and began planting a variety of tree species on what had been barren, sandy wasteland. In 1966 he founded the Gyeongchun Tourism Development Co. and developed the island into a general resort; then, to overcome the downturn brought on by the financial crisis of the late 1990s, the company changed its name to Namiseom Co., Ltd. in April 2000, and has managed the island ever since.MoreLess
