A Camping Trip at Byeokgye Valley

Uiryeong's Byeokgye Tourist Site, formed by damming a valley between mountains to create a reservoir, boasts beautiful scenery including Byeokgye Reservoir, Chalbi Valley, and Bonghwangdae. The Byeokgye Tourist Site is equipped with various amenities along with a campground, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a cool valley. Uiryeong is the hometown where General Gwak Jae-u, the 'Red Robe General,' first raised a righteous army in the whole country during the Imjin War, defeating Japanese forces at Jeongam-ru Pavilion. Jeongam-ru and Chungiksa Shrine are historic sites where visitors can learn about General Gwak Jae-u's life and his righteous army activities.

   Exiting at Gunbuk IC on the Namhae Expressway and driving for about 10 minutes brings you to the gateway of Uiryeong, a town known for its loyalty and righteousness. Beneath the iron bridge where the Namgang River flows gently, a rock resembling a cauldron rests leisurely on the water's surface — this is Sotbawi (Cauldron Rock).    Chungiksa Shrine

   Chungiksa is a shrine enshrining the memorial tablets of General Gwak Jae-u, the 'Red Robe General' who first raised a righteous army to defend the nation during the Imjin War (1592), and the soldiers under his command. Memorial events honoring Gwak Jae-u have been held here every year since 1972.\nThe shrine complex consists of nine buildings, including the main shrine hall, a memorial hall, Chunguigak Pavilion, and inner and outer three-door gates. The memorial hall displays the 'Relics of Mangudang,' Treasure No. 671. Chunguigak, decorated with elaborate brackets and ornamentation, houses the posthumous official titles bestowed on Gwak Jae-u and his 17 generals.
