A Healing Journey at the Oriental Medicine Theme Park

Sancheong has established itself as a hub of the traditional Korean medicine industry. Centered on Jirisan Mountain, it is considered one of the best places in Korea for cultivating medicinal herbs, home to about 1,000 domestic species growing wild, and is well known as the place where Heo Jun, author of the Donguibogam, and his teacher Yu Ui-tae practiced medicine. Sancheong Oriental Medicine Theme Park, built around the theme of traditional medicine, features a museum of Korean medicine along with bear and tiger characters and various sculptures, making it a journey of healing through traditional medicine.

   Saengcho International Sculpture Park

   Adjoining the prehistoric Saengcho tomb cluster and Oeoe Mountain Fortress, Saengcho International Sculpture Park is a distinctive cultural and arts park where recently excavated Gaya-era tomb clusters (No. 2) and about 20 modern Korean and international sculptures blend the ancient and the contemporary. The sculptures installed here were created by internationally renowned sculptors who took part in the Sancheong International Contemporary Sculpture Symposium in 1999, 2003, and 2005. Oeoe Mountain Fortress is located on a low hill (366.9m above sea level) to the upper left of the Saengcho tomb cluster; it is an early Goryeo-period stone hilltop fortress, and is said to have been the base from which General Gwak Jae-u, the 'Red Robe General,' achieved significant victories in defending against Japanese forces advancing north during the Imjin War.\nMoreLess

   Alleged Royal Tomb of King Guhyeong, Sancheong

   산청 전 구형왕릉

   A stone tomb believed to be the burial site of King Guhyeong, the tenth ruler of Gaya. King Guhyeong, also known as Guhae or King Yang, was the grandfather of Kim Yu-sin. He became king of Gaya in 521 and reigned for 11 years until 532, when he ceded the kingdom's territory to King Beopheung of Silla. Two theories surround this tomb — one holding it to be a stone pagoda, the other a royal tomb.
