Shall We Go See the Red Spider Lilies at Yongcheonsa?

Yongcheonsa Temple in Hampyeong is, along with Seonunsa Temple in Gochang and Bulgapsa Temple in Yeonggwang, counted among the most beautiful places for red spider lily (kkotmureut) colonies. A red spider lily park has been created around Yongcheonsa, and in autumn the red spider lilies put on a spectacular show. From the red spider lily park at the temple entrance all the way to the hill behind Yongcheonsa, the whole area becomes a world of red spider lilies. Along with Yongcheonsa, take in pure nature at the Hampyeong Natural Ecology Park and 'Hwangto and Wildflower World.'

   Yongcheonsa Temple

   Yongcheonsa is a branch temple of Baegyangsa, the head temple of the 18th District of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded in 600 (the 1st year of King Mu of Baekje) by the monk Haengeun. The temple's name derives from a spring called Yongcheon (Dragon Spring) beneath the stairs of the main hall (Daeungjeon); legend holds that this spring connects to the Yellow Sea and that a dragon once lived there before ascending to heaven.
