Leaving the Mundane World to Meet Scenic Beauty

Songnisan is the only national park in North Chungcheong Province. Its name means 'leaving the secular world,' after an episode from the Silla period when the monk Jinpyo Yulsa passed through and the oxen plowing a field knelt down before him, prompting the farmers themselves to leave secular life and take up mountain ascetic practice. On the way into Songnisan stands Beopjusa Temple, home to the Jeongipum Pine Tree — bestowed an official court rank by a king — along with Palsangjeon Hall, the Twin-Lion Stone Lantern, the Stone Lotus Basin, and many other national treasures and treasures, making it a place to leave the secular world behind and enjoy a full day away from it all.
