Malti-jae in Boeun got its name from an episode involving King Sejo of Joseon: on his way to Songnisan to treat a skin ailment, the road grew so steep his palanquin could go no further, so he rested a while and crossed over on horseback instead. Beyond the winding, steep switchbacks of Malti-jae lies the tranquil Malti-jae Natural Recreation Forest, where dense woods and Jangjae Lake come together — a perfect spot to unwind.
